Each of the lodge’s seven rooms has large French windows that open onto a private deck cantilevered off the escarpment. The views are legendary, and a water hole a few hundred feet below draws a continuous parade of wildlife. All the furniture in the lodge is handmade and there is also a swimming pool, tennis court, bocce court and croquet lawn. The spa offers massage and beauty treatment and a romantic open-air bubble bath, all with a tranquil view of the unspoiled Karissia Hills. In addition to wildlife viewing, there are opportunities to ride mountain bikes, horses and camels. When the river has enough water, there are inflatable boats for river rafting. You may also want to fly by helicopter to the slopes of Mt. Kenya to try your hand at fly-fishing in an absolutely pristine area. The silence of the forest is sure to be disrupted by the calls of colubus monkeys. Red duiker may poke their heads timidly through the bush or a family of elephants may come crashing into view. The fishing will be no less stunning than the unusual environment.
One of your nights here will be spent at one of two sets of Star Beds, unique to Loisaba. Each Star Bed consists of a handcrafted wooden raised platform, partially covered with a thatched roof with toilet and showers attached. Homemade ‘Mukokoteni’ (uniquely designed bed on wheels’), can either be wheeled onto the open deck area for a night under the stars, or left under the shelter of the roof. All the beds have complete ‘four-poster’ insect netting. The Star Beds can be reached by one of many options - by foot, horse, camel or vehicle. You will be guided and hosted by a team of traditional Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai warriors. Food is prepared in traditional camp kitchen, Barbeque style. As you share the campfire with your host, you will have wonderful opportunities to learn about his life, so vastly different from the one you lead. It is a truly magical time.
