No drum roll, please—we think that being mother-daughter business partners is sufficiently attention-getting.  As for Marcia, if there were a Ph.D. in African Travel, we would be referring to her as “Dr. Gordon.”  For 30 years, first with Park East Tours and then as director of travel for the New York firm of F. M. Allen, she has been guiding discerning clients to places where she knows they will experience wonderment. 

Marcia moves freely among many worlds.  During eleven years in Kenya, she built a house near Nairobi, earned her pilot’s license, and spent significant amounts of time learning traditional herbal remedies and soul-healing practices, all while expanding her first-hand knowledge of guest facilities in sub-Saharan Africa.  During another eleven years, this time in Paris, in addition to all of the above she was President of the WICE foundation—a continuing education center for the English speaking community—and established the Bring A Book Foundation, which is now supported by Extraordinary Journeys.

It’s not surprising that Marcia’s daughter, Elizabeth, inherited the travel gene.  Born in Kenya, her innate instinct for exploration was encouraged by her parents, who included her in their many visits to exceptional lodges and properties.  After graduating from Stanford University, Elizabeth (also a pilot) worked for the prestigious Wilderness Safaris in Namibia, where she managed high-end luxury safari camps, learning first-hand what it means to “exceed expectations.” Her knowledge of marketing and customer relations was honed while operating a successful vacation rental management and booking agency in Buenos Aires called International Nest, which specialized in the upscale Argentine vacation apartment market. 

Clémence grew up in the cosmopolitan city of Bruxelles, a crossroad of European culture where she attended international and American schools. She is the link between the American structure and the European clientele and heads the new office in Paris.
